The Craft of the Dhurrie

Every Epsillion dhurrie begins with an idea and is brought to life by hand.

Working closely with skilled craftsmen in Rajasthan, our dhurries are made using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Flat woven by hand on traditional looms, the yarn is worked tightly together without a pile, creating the distinctive texture, strength and versatility for which dhurries have long been prized.

The nature of this process means that no two are ever quite the same. Subtle shifts in colour, texture and weave are part of their character, giving each piece an individuality that could never be replicated by machine.

It is a craft rooted in tradition, shaped by hand and made to endure to create an antique of the future.

The Making Of.

01 - Design & Render

Each dhurrie begins with a design, carefully rendered to establish its pattern, proportions and scale.

02 - Colour Matching

Once complete, the dhurrie is carefully washed and naturally dried, softening the fibres and allowing the colours to settle.

03 - Dyeing the Yarn

The yarn is dyed using traditional vegetable dyes, bringing richness, vibrancy and natural variation to every colour.

04 - Weaving by Hand

Skilled craftsmen flat weave each dhurrie entirely by hand on traditional looms, carefully bringing the pattern to life.

05 - Washing & Drying

Colours are selected and matched by eye, bringing together vibrant, often unexpected combinations that are unmistakably Epsillion.

06 - The Finished Dhurrie

The finished piece is inspected by hand before making its journey from Rajasthan to its new home.

A Relationship Woven
Over Time.

For more than twenty five years, Heather Weaver has built longstanding relationships with craftsmen and trusted partners in Rajasthan, united by a shared appreciation for the craft of the dhurrie.

Those relationships remain at the heart of Epsillion today. Designs, colours and ideas are developed collaboratively, bringing together generations of weaving knowledge with Heather’s instinctive eye for pattern, proportion and colour.

It is a creative exchange built on trust and shared knowledge, connecting every Epsillion dhurrie to the hands that make it and the home it is created for.

Our dhurries can also be created specifically for your space. Drawing from Epsillion’s collection of designs and references, colour, scale, proportion and selected details can be adapted to create something individual to you.

From the first rendering to the final weave, each piece is brought to life by hand by our craftsmen in Rajasthan.
